Splice recently introduced a new, AI-powered feature allowing producers and beatmakers to upload their loops and match them with suitable samples from the Splice sample library.
AI-powered sample discovery
The New York-based music company Splice is widely known among music producers and beatmakers. The platform provides music makers with numerous tools and resources, including rent-to-own plugins and an extensive sample library containing over 300 instrument categories spanning 130 genres. Monthly credit points allow subscribers to download high-quality samples submitted to Splice by other musicians.
Yet scrolling through hundreds of samples to find the right one can take a lot of time. To simplify the process, Splice decided to introduce a new, AI-powered feature. Users can now upload their loops into the AI engine ‘Create,’ which evaluates the file and provides them with a list of recommended, matching samples.
The engine can process various types of files, including instrumental, drum, or vocal loops. Users can find it by selecting ‘Create’ under ‘Create mode’ on the left menu bar on the platform’s website and switching the slider to ‘Start with your loop.’ After uploading the file, you can choose the primary instrument and genre for your so-called ‘Stack.’ Leaving out the genre specification will allow you to extend your search to all options. The function ‘Add layers myself’ discovers compatible loops in the Splice library, while ‘Suggest layers for me’ uses the original loop as a “seed layer” to find compatible loops from the catalog and generates a complete Stack.
Those concerned about AI and copyrights do not have to worry, as Splice makes it clear it will not use uploaded sounds to train AI models. You can learn more about the technical details and file formats in a detailed Splice article about the new feature.
