After launching its own classical music streaming platform in 2023, Apple Music has just introduced a new global weekly chart dedicated to the genre.

The best classical music albums worldwide

The ‘Apple Classical Top 100’ chart features the most popular classical music albums globally, using data from five key sources across 165 countries: Apple Music Classical streams, Apple Music streams, iTunes downloads, iTunes song sales, and Shazam Tags.

The chart gets updated every Monday and reflects the previous week’s activity from Friday to Thursday, providing a current snapshot of the global classical music scene. The chart can be accessed in the Apple Music Classical app via the ‘Home’ tab.

Oliver Schusser, Apple’s vice president of Apple Music and Beats, announced the news in an official statement: “Apple Music Classical has been a huge hit with classical fans around the world. With the launch of Apple Classical Top 100 and the recently announced new partnerships, the app is transforming the world of classical.”

The inaugural no. 1 album on the Apple Classical Top 100 is ‘Bach: Keyboard Concertos’ album, featuring Chinese pianist Tianqi Du and the English chamber orchestra The Academy of St Martin's in the Fields. Overall, the current top 5 best albums on the chart come from the UK, Norway, Latvia, Brazil, and Canada.

Launching the global weekly chart is part of Apple’s overarching efforts to promote and boost the classical music genre. The streaming platform also features expert-curated playlists as well as detailed educational content, including comprehensive composer biographies and descriptions of thousands of musical works.

Additionally, Apple Music Classical has partnered with leading global concert venues, opera companies, and orchestras to offer exclusive content and recordings. These partners include, among others, Vienna Philharmonics, Berlin Philharmonic, Opéra National de Paris, Carnegie Hall, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, and London Symphony Orchestra.
