Last year, Apple introduced several new Apple Music features, including lyrics translation, pronunciation guides, and an AI-powered AutoMix function. Now, the company has announced that it will expand and upgrade the features this fall.

Apple Music Features From Last Year Getting Expanded In Fall

Last year, Apple introduced several new Apple Music features designed to make listening more interactive and accessible. These included tools that translate song lyrics and provide pronunciation guides for select tracks in foreign languages, helping users better understand and sing along to international music. The company also launched AutoMix, an AI-powered feature that creates seamless transitions between songs, expanded its karaoke experience with collaborative and interactive elements, and refreshed the app's design to improve navigation and usability. Now, Apple says it is building on those additions with another round of updates arriving this fall.

Lyrics Translation and Pronunciation Are Expanding

The first set of updates will expand Apple Music's lyrics features. Its Lyrics Translation tool will gain seven additional language pairings: English to French, English to German, English to Italian, English to Korean, English to Spanish, French to English, and Japanese to English.

At the moment, Lyrics Translation is available for select songs in six language pairings: English to Chinese (Simplified), English to Japanese, Korean to Chinese (Simplified), Korean to English, Korean to Japanese, and Spanish to English. Availability also varies from song to song.

Apple says the feature relies on AI systems supported by language experts to help ensure that "the true emotion, cultural nuance, and original lyrical intent of every song is preserved." Whether this will consistently translate cultural nuances in practice remains to be seen.

The company is also expanding Lyrics Pronunciation, which helps listeners sing along to songs in languages they may not speak. The feature will add five new pairings: Arabic to Romanized Arabic, English to Hangul, English to Katakana, Japanese to Hangul, and Mandarin Chinese (simplified) to Katakana.

Upgrades to Automix & Lossless Audio Features

Apple is also improving AutoMix, its feature that creates transitions between songs. According to the company, the updated version introduces new transition types intended to make the listening experience feel smoother. AutoMix will also become available on Apple Music in tvOS and on HomePod later this fall.

Finally, Apple Music is bringing Hi-Res Lossless Audio to tvOS in addition to standard Lossless Audio. Subscribers with compatible external speaker outputs will be able to experience studio-quality audio through Apple TV 4K at up to 24-bit/192 kHz.

According to Apple and Music Business Worldwide, the new Apple Music features have been available for testing through the Apple Developer Program since Tuesday (June 9). A public beta is expected to follow next month before a broader rollout later this fall.
