Change The Beat Sets New Milestones for Artist Development
If you’re a female or gender-expansive electronic music artist, you might want to look into Change The Beat, a global non-profit organization dedicated to increasing representation within the genre.
Founded by artist and producer Sydney Blu in 2021, Change The Beat offers a range of programs designed to support career growth. These include education, mentorship, industry networking, artist development programs, live events, remix contests, and release opportunities, all aimed at helping women and gender-expansive artists build sustainable careers in music. Its programs are open to artists worldwide.
As reported Mixmag Asia, the organization has now announced a new set of milestones. Its goal is to help 300 artists secure label opportunities within the next two years and 600 within five years. Over the next decade, it hopes to increase that number to 1,500 artists. The organization also states that it has already helped facilitate more than 100 label opportunities for women and gender-expansive artists.
To support these goals, Change The Beat is expanding its Remix Contest and launching a new initiative called Demo Room.
Through the Remix Contest, artists can submit their own versions of tracks from artists including deadmau5, Ultra Naté, Crystal Waters, Eli & Fur, Nicole Moudaber, Nala, VNSSA, Azzecca, J. Worra, Essel, Maxinne, Giorgia Angiuli, Tini Gessler, and more. Winners can receive opportunities for official remix releases through participating labels, major prize packages from Native Instruments, and direct exposure to label A&Rs and industry teams.
Demo Room is a monthly initiative that connects producers from the organization’s Discord community directly with record labels looking for new talent. Each month, a featured label is highlighted across the community and social channels. Label founders, A&Rs, and industry teams share information about their sound and what they are looking for through exclusive video content, while also inviting artists to submit demos for consideration.
“Over the course of my career, I’ve learned that talent alone isn’t always enough. Artists need access to mentorship, industry relationships, education, and opportunities to be seen and heard. Change The Beat was created to help provide those pathways, says Sydney Blu.
