ChatGPT Now Lets Users Identify Songs With Shazam

Apple Music and ChatGPT are teaming up! The streaming platform is integrating its music recognition tool, Shazam, with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, giving users a new ability to identify songs within the app.

Shazam Brings Song Recognition Technology to ChatGPT

The integration of Shazam into ChatGPT is quite simple: when a user writes a prompt that includes the word “Shazam” – like, “Shazam, what’s playing?” or “Shazam, what is this song?” – Shazam’s music-recognition system is activated. It listens to the current audio and then provides the song's title, artist, album artwork, and a preview clip within the chat interface.

The integration doesn’t require the Shazam app to be downloaded on the user’s device; however, those who already have the app can benefit from saving discoveries directly to their in-app library.

The Shazam app for ChatGPT brings the ease and speed of Shazam’s music recognition technology to ChatGPT, for a simple, seamless way to name and preview songs without leaving the chatbot,” Shazam stated on the integration.

OpenAI’s Apps Ecosystem is Growing Successfully

Notably, the integration is the latest addition to the growing collection of third-party integrations OpenAI has been developing around its chatbot. The apps ecosystem in the ChatGPT interface was first launched in October 2025 with partners including Spotify, Booking.com, Canva, Figma, Coursera, and others.

Naturally, this reflects a broader trend of AI platforms expanding into everyday utility tools, allowing users to perform tasks such as discovering music, booking travel, or creating content without leaving a single interface.

For OpenAI, music partnerships in particular have become a key focus. The ChatGPT–Spotify integration allows both Free and Premium users to link their accounts to receive personalized music and podcast recommendations directly in the chat. Meanwhile, the Apple Music integration, announced in December 2025, enables subscribers to create playlists and search for music using written prompts in ChatGPT. Now, Shazam adds song identification to the mix.

The Shazam–ChatGPT integration is being rolled out worldwide on iOS, Android, and web devices. To start using Shazam in ChatGPT, users must first make sure that Shazam is “Connected” in the Apps tab of the ChatGPT interface. Usually, the integration only works when:

  • The Shazam app/service is connected inside ChatGPT.

  • ChatGPT has permission to access the user’s microphone.

  • The user activates it in a voice-enabled ChatGPT environment that supports the integration.
