Indie Film Company A24 to Potentially Expand Into Music, Teasing a New Social Channel

A24, the indie film company behind blockbusters like Lady Bird, Moonlight, Past Lives, and many others, is teasing an expansion into the field of music. What are the plans? Let’s explore together.

Is A24 Just Revealing a New Social Media Channel?

A24 Music. Stay tuned.” That’s all the indie film production and distribution company shared in its recent, cryptic Instagram post. The visual—a Reel, to be specific—doesn’t give away much either. It simply features a vintage vinyl record that seems to come together to form what might be the logo of the new project. Below, the title A24 Music appears.

As you might expect, the comments are filled with chaos. One user asked, “Is this a movie or what?” Another user commented, “It’s just William Dafoe screaming into a mic with reverb’d guitar" (for context, Willem Dafoe has appeared in several A24 films).

As the culture and lifestyle company Hypebeast reported shortly after the post was published, the new venture may not be as exciting as some had anticipated. It was clarified that the post was shared solely to introduce the company’s new social media channel dedicated to its music division. Previously, Billboard revealed that A24 launched its own record label in 2021, partnering with the label distribution company, Secretly Distribution. The indie film company has been recognized in the industry for celebrating music in its movies and collaborating with talented composers and musicians to create memorable soundtracks that resonate with audiences just like the films themselves.

The music division continues to merge music and cinema under the A24 brand through projects like I Saw the TV Glow (2024), featuring compositions by Caroline Polachek, Phoebe Bridgers, and others, as well as the upcoming Charli XCX-led film, The Moment. Additionally, it focuses on developing original music beyond film soundtracks.

Despite the reasonable explanation behind the cryptic post, some continue to believe that more is to come from the film company. It is the “Stay Tuned" part that people believe may signal slightly more exciting music-related updates. So far, A24’s most ambitious music project has been a 2024 tribute album celebrating the 40th anniversary of Talking Heads’ Stop Making Sense concert film and soundtrack.
