Instagram Reveals a New Feature, Allowing Users to Share Music in Private Chats

Instagram has introduced a new music-sharing feature that allows users to send 30-second previews of tracks to their friends through private chats.

Instagram to dominate music discovery and sharing

The feature, one of many rolled out by the social media platform in late February, is available globally for iOS and Android users. It integrates with Instagram’s music library and allows users to share tracks through private messages and broadcast channels.

To access the feature, users can tap the Message icon, open a conversation, and select the stickers button in the bottom right corner. From there, they can click the new ‘Music’ sticker and browse through Instagram’s song library. Once a track is selected, a preview is sent directly in the chat, allowing participants to play or pause the clip at their convenience.

With this feature, Instagram reportedly targets young people who often discover new music on social media, aiming to solidify its position as a platform for music discovery and sharing.

To promote the feature, Instagram has partnered up with artists JENNIE and Doechii, both of whom have showcased the new tool through their broadcast channels. This collaboration highlights how the feature can further enhance artist-fan engagement on the platform.

The music-sharing update builds on Instagram’s partnership with Spotify, established in October. That collaboration allows users to save songs discovered on the social media platform directly to their Spotify library with a single click.
