In September 2023, the music streaming platform Spotify surprised its users with yet another another update: a new personalized playlist called daylist.

Although it shares similarities with Discover Weekly and Release Radar, daylist has significant differences: in contrast to the other two, it updates consistently throughout the day by analyzing user behavior in a detailed manner.

Spotify’s official press release offers further insight, describing the new feature as follows:

“This new, one-of-a-kind playlist on Spotify ebbs and flows with unique vibes, bringing together the niche music and microgenres you usually listen to during particular moments in the day or on specific days of the week. It updates frequently between sunup and sundown with a series of highly specific playlists made for every version of you. It’s hyper-personalized, dynamic, and playful as it reflects what you want to be listening to right now.”

For example, if you enjoy groovy house music in the morning, techno during the day, and liquid drum and bass in the evening, your Spotify daylist will adapt to match your preferences. Additionally, it evolves with your current musical phases, offering suggestions that align with the niche genres you’re exploring. You can also save your daylist permanently—but act quickly, as it constantly refreshes and doesn’t stay the same for long.

Besides featuring songs you already know, Spotify daylist aims to expose users to new songs that match their mood and helps them better understand their taste in music:

“You’ll get new tracks at every update, plus a new title that sets the mood of your daylist. With relatable titles including thrillwave, happy dance, pumpkin spice, and more, the playlist helps you understand more about your taste in music—and express your unique audio identity.”

Another exciting aspect of Spotify's daylist is the dynamic background graphics and colors of its covers, which you can share on social media. These covers change throughout the day, with brighter tones in the morning and darker ones in the evening.
