Spotify Aims to Add Live Concert Video, According to Reports

There’s no space in music untouched by Spotify. At least, that’s what seems to be the streaming company’s ambition. According to the latest reports, Spotify has held discussions with festival promoters about securing rights to stream live concert videos on its platform.

Spotify to Push into Live Concert Video

The news of the company’s potential foray into live video was first reported by Bloomberg in early June 2026. Spotify has previously experimented with live audio through its now-defunct audio app, Spotify Live, and has recently expanded its video offering with concert footage, including Dua Lipa’s Mexico City show and Olivia Rodrigo’s Billions Club Live concert in Barcelona. The latter, however, was part of an ongoing series of concerts released on the platform.

If confirmed, Spotify appears set for a busy summer. The platform recently added more than 650 long-form, narrated magazine articles to its content roster, and last month (May 2026), it unveiled a new feature called Reserved, which reserves tour tickets for superfans on the Premium tier. Industry experts have likened the strategy to that of American Express, which offers cardholders presale access. The feature, currently available only in the US, was launched through a multi-year partnership with Live Nation.

The keen interest in live concerts also aligns with Spotify’s broader push into video. The platform has been actively encouraging users to watch videos to increase engagement and drive ad revenue, with the advertising business reportedly facing challenges in recent quarters. In this context, live streaming could give Spotify another way to keep users within its ecosystem while creating new opportunities for advertising, sponsorship, and premium subscriber perks.

Beyond Spotify’s internal strategy, the move could position the company more directly against players like YouTube, which has been offering Coachella live streams – one of the most prominent live music events in North America – for more than a decade. Meanwhile, Hulu has previously streamed the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, giving Disney another foothold in live music streaming. Similarly, Amazon Music served as the exclusive livestream destination for Stagecoach this year.

From an artist’s perspective, if the plans move forward, live concert streams could also create additional promotional opportunities for artists and festivals seeking to reach Spotify’s global audience. For fans, concerts and festivals may become more accessible, especially large-scale events that many people may not be able to attend in person due to distance, cost, or limited ticket availability.
