LEGS is carving out a much-needed space in the electronic music landscape: a label, training hub, and community platform built by and for FLINTA artists. Emerging from the grassroots momentum of Move Ur Gambettes – a France-based collective dedicated to accessible DJ education – the team has expanded its mission to support emerging producers from their very first workshop all the way to releasing their debut tracks.

In this Label Spotlight, we speak with Leah and Bernadette about how LEGS came to life, the sound shaping their catalog, and the spaces they’re creating for underrepresented artists to experiment, grow, and be heard.

iM: Hi LEGS team! Can you please introduce yourselves and what you do?

Bernadette: My name is Bernadette, and five years ago, I founded the collective Move Ur Gambettes, which offers FLINTA individuals free access to DJing lessons. Last year, I launched two new training programs focused on composition and music production, as well as the LEGS label, which helps the artists we support release their first tracks. The team is currently made up of nine artists, DJs and/or composers, who volunteer their time to ensure the smooth running of the training sessions, workshops, and the management of the label.

Leah: My name is Leah, and I’ve been part of the LEGS team since last year. I’m involved with organizing this year’s artist accompaniment program – more specifically, helping out with the applications once we start receiving them, confirming the location and guest speaker for the MAO music production workshops, and being present when they are held, and of course, curating the iMusician playlist “Bass for Breakfast.”

iM: What inspired you to take the next step and turn the energy from Move Ur Gambettes into a record label?

Bernadette: Move Ur Gambettes was founded based on the pressing necessity to create more inclusive spaces in the DJing scene, in which there have always been exclusivity issues. Via free workshops and programs for anyone identifying as FLINTA, we wanted to make DJing more accessible to them and boost our mentee's confidence, showing them that they, too, deserve to be behind the decks.

Over the course of this experience, we felt that something essential was missing–lots of people knew how to DJ, but few dared get into producing music, either due to lack of available classes or visibility. This is where LEGS comes in – the desire to go further, to provide a thorough artistic accompaniment program, from creation to distribution.

iM: What kind of sound do you think defines the LEGS catalog?

Leah: Our label is broadly focused on dancefloor-oriented bass music. We wanted to keep it as open as possible in order to fit with a wide range of artistic profiles, but what links everything together is bass music, broken beats, things that don’t fit in more mainstream contexts.

Bernadette: The label’s energy is defined by the raw, genuine power of the first sounds created by these artists – a kind of unfiltered sincerity often found at the beginning of any creative journey. For me, that honesty is deeply tied to the core identity of the label.

iM: What kind of spaces or conversations do you hope your releases open up for underrepresented artists?

Bernadette: Via LEGS, we wanted to open spaces where FLINTA artists can create without having to conform to a predefined model. Each album is a collaborative project – a way of making people's voices, feelings, and unique means of creating heard.

In addition to the music, we hope to spark conversations about the place of women and queer people – and more specifically, questions of transmission, precarity, and solidarity – in the electronic music scene. Our albums hold the identity that music can be a political tool, a means of emancipation and transformation.

iM: How did it feel to put out your first release through LEGS?

Leah: It felt amazing! I had a blast during the program last year. I met lovely, talented artists with whom I shared not only musical interests but also values. Everyone was kind, humble, motivated, and eager to learn from each other. It was an incredibly safe and supportive environment to work in.

I’m very happy with the track I made for our first compilation; and proud of all my friends’ work as well. It’s a unique album and while it is definitely eclectic, all the tracks still make sense together, which is not easy to pull off!
