A young rapper from Normandy, France, Gordon Quellec caught our eye this week. At the dawn of a year that already promises to be productive for the artist, he has just released Etat d'esprit, a simple and effective track with just the right amount of groove. A source of good vibes welcome in these difficult times, Etat d'esprit is our release of the week.

Author, composer, performer, music video director, and even founder of his own label 2044records, Gordon Quellec is the symbol of a generation of prolific independent artists who keep control of their musical projects. On the eve of the release his new single of Etat d'esprit, we asked the artist a few questions.

Gordon Quellec, can you present your project and what is in store for you in 2021?

I started rapping in the 1st grade of high school and now, 4 years later, I'm 20 years old and fully committed to my project: to create an independent label in Normandy.

So I created my own label 2044records. The project is to highlight artists like my brother (wes.winnee) with whom I work a lot. We make our instrumentals, our clips, our mixes, everything is homemade. As an artist, my sound pushes people to give everything they have to reach their goal.

I will release a song every 2 weeks in 2021. This past year, I lived in the city at my father's house, and in the country at my mother's house. The 2 points of view allowed me to take a step back on many things, and it can be felt in my sounds (a calm blow, a punchline blow).

Can you tell us about the single Etat d'esprit?

Etat d'esprit
is a good topline, the kind of sound that you can listen to. It was originally a freestyle on TikTok but I liked it so much that I made it a song. The melodic part and the emotion it gives are much more important than the lyrics themselves, nevertheless, through this song I talk about my doubts about my artistic choices, normal since it's the beginning of my career.
