Less than a month after releasing its new iOS operating system for iPhone, Apple is already rolling out the first update. iOS 18.1 is set to introduce new exciting tools, including a song-sharing functionality developed in collaboration with TikTok.
TikTok and music: new integration with Apple Music secured
It was just recently that we reported on the news of TikTok Music shutting down. In an official statement, Ole Obermann, Global Head of Music Business Development at Tiktok, explained that the platform’s new focus is to continue developing its ‘Add To Music App’ feature. This initiative will allow users to save the tracks they discovered on TikTok directly to playlists on selected music streaming platforms, like Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, etc.
Though it might be too early for TikTok to share updates on this feature’s progress (after all, TikTok Music won’t shut down its operations until the end of November), the platform has already secured a music-related integration with Apple Music. With iOS 18.1, Apple Music users can now easily share their favorite tracks on TikTok.
The updated Apple Music app comes with a new button for sharing songs to TikTok. Tapping the button will lead users directly to the TikTok app with a card showing the shared song. From there, users can share it as a photo or a video, which will automatically link the song to their post or send it to someone in a private message. If shared as a video, users can record a clip with the song playing in the background.
The new TikTok song-sharing feature on Apple Music bears a resemblance to Instagram’s integration with Apple Music, Amazon Music, and Spotify, which was introduced in 2020. Except that Instagram doesn’t allow users to link the shared song to Instagram Stories, and TikTok doesn’t enable for sharing song lyrics in posts.
Beyond the new functionality, iOS 18.1 includes access to Apple Intelligence, with tools like Writing Tools, notification summarization, and Clean Up in Apple’s Photos app. All these new features are available with the new update on all devices compatible with iOS 18.
Other features, such as Image Playground, Genmoji, and an improved Siri, are set to come with a future update later this year. Most of these features will likely require an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
