Using its own music-identification technology, Shazam has launched a new feature called ‘Radio Spins’ charts.

Discovering music from 40,000 radio stations worldwide

Shazam is seemingly taking music discovery to the next level by integrating music played on the radio. Its new feature, which is now available on Apple Music and shazam.com, allows users to explore what music is playing on radio stations everywhere.

The app uses its own music recognition software to identify and rank tracks played on over 40,000 radio stations around the world. Among them are both stations that transmit music in a traditional way and internet radio stations.

Users can easily discover new music and explore what’s been trendy on the radio. They can also search music through various categories, including music genres and artists, and can apply the categories both locally and globally.

Available genres on Apple Music include pop, hip-hop and rap, R&B and soul, electronic, alternative, rock, Latin, country, and more. Shazam’s website includes some more genres, such as Afrobeats, reggae, French pop, singer/songwriter songs, and Música Mexicana. Additionally, Apple Music subscribers will get access to a daily global top 200 Radio Chart powered by the data.

Ultimately, by launching ‘Radio Spins’ charts, Shazam takes an important step in music discovery, breaking the gap between traditional radio broadcasting and digital music streaming.
