Spotify includes music videos to its services
Spotify has announced that up from now (March 13, 2024), it will include music videos in its streaming services. The feature is currently available in the beta version of the app. It can be accessed in 11 countries, including the U.K., Kenya, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, and Germany.
Spotify hopes to expand the limited catalog of videos in the future and ideally make the feature accessible to more countries. As part of the beta launch, it will "continue to innovate and iterate based on feedback from both users and artists."
In an official statement published by Spotify, Charlie Hellman (Vice President and Head of Music Product) said that music videos are "an important part of so many artists’ toolkits, and it’s a natural fit for them to live in the same place that more than half a billion people choose to listen to music." As per Music Business Worldwide, the feature may challenge the video platform YouTube, which runs its own widely used music service.
How to watch music videos on Spotify?
Those who reside in one of the 11 countries and are subscribed to Spotify Premium can watch music videos by selecting the 'Switch to Video' toggle for supported songs. The feature is accessible on mobile devices, desktop computers, and TVs. They can turn off the video function by switching back to Audio mode.
