Last year, Spotify launched music videos for its Premium users. With the help of labels and distributors, artists can now get their music videos on Spotify.

In March 2024, Spotify announced the introduction of music videos. The feature became available in beta across 11 countries, including the U.K., Kenya, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, Poland, and Germany. Later, it rolled out in numerous other countries across Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and South America.
In an official statement published by Spotify, Charlie Hellman (Vice President and Head of Music Product) explained that music videos are “an important part of so many artists’ toolkits, and it’s a natural fit for them to live in the same place that more than half a billion people choose to listen to music.” As per Music Business Worldwide, the feature may challenge the globally used video platform YouTube.
How to watch music videos on Spotify?
Premium subscribers can watch Spotify music videos by selecting the “Switch to Video” toggle for supported songs. The feature is available on mobile devices, desktop computers, and TVs. They can turn off the video function by switching back to audio mode.
How to get music videos on Spotify?
According to Spotify, music videos can be uploaded to the streaming platform by a selected few labels and distributors. Similar to how music distribution works, artists cannot get their videos to the platform without the help of a third party.
In its FAQ article on music videos, Spotify says it is currently “working to expand music video access. If you’re interested in making your music videos available for Spotify listeners, reach out to your distributor for more info.” If you are a label without access to the feature, you can also reach out to your contact at Spotify to express your interest in having your artists’ music videos on Spotify.
Once your music video has been delivered, you can find it by clicking on ‘Video & Visuals’ and going to ‘Music Videos.’
