At just 18 years old, Swiss singer-songwriter Fiona Camastral is making waves in the music world. A graduate of the Surselva Talent School, where she honed her vocal skills, Fiona has already released two heartfelt singles. In this interview, Fiona shares insights into her musical beginnings, the challenges she’s faced as a young artist, and her goals for the future.

Could you share a bit about how you got into music? When did you start, and what made you fall in love with singing and songwriting?
I started singing when I was about 4 years old. I always loved to sing at home with my parents and other kids. I was already in a singing group for small children. Actually, I sang all the time. Later, I went to a talent school for singing, and I loved it.
I wrote my first single, «Keep Going», at the end of talent school.
I fell in love with music because it’s my way to relax and express my feelings!

You’ve come a long way already. Are there any specific challenges you’ve faced as a young artist in the music industry, and how did you overcome them?
I would say the hardest part was the beginning—bringing the melody in my head into a real song. I always had many ideas, but making a whole song with singing, recording, and songwriting is not as easy as it seems. But I always loved it, so that made it much easier.
Hearing myself on the radio for the first time, for example, was also very special. That's not a challenge, but it was very funny at the beginning.

What does it mean to be an independent artist for you?
Be yourself, and don’t try to make everyone like your music, because it’s impossible. Just do it for you!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve received about music?
Be yourself! Make your own thing and don't try to be someone else.

What are your goals for the next year?
I will continue to make music, and my goal is definitely to do more live performances next year!
