Another year, another Spotify Wrapped! The highly anticipated 2024 edition is here, offering fans across the globe a chance to dive deep into their listening habits and music choices from the past year. Traditionally, every Spotify Wrapped brings fresh features to enhance the experience, and 2024 is no different. What’s new? Keep reading to find out! Let’s explore what Spotify Wrapped 2024 has in store.

Spotify Wrapped 2024 for listeners

On the landing page that guides users to their Wrapped, Spotify officially describes the campaign as “Your year in audio: a deeper look into your listening with a recap made just for you.”

So, what insights does this year’s Wrapped edition offer to Spotify users? Every year, there are some recurring features that eligible users can find in their personalized experience, and 2024 is no exception to this rule. These features include the top artists, the top songs, and the amount of time (in minutes) they spent listening to music in the app. Users can further discover how many artists they listened to and what their top podcasts were. As always, all this is stylishly ‘wrapped’ in an eye-catching interactive presentation uniquely tailored to each music fan.

It's also worth discussing the categories absent from this year's Wrapped. To the surprise of many, several popular elements are missing. Users no longer have access to insights like their top albums, favorite music genre(s), or the number of genres they explored throughout the year. Additionally, features introduced in previous editions are no longer included. Gone are “Your Listening Personality” and “Sound Town,” which connected listeners to a particular city based on their listening and artist affinity.

As we teased in the beginning, there is a brand-new feature called “Your Music Evolution.” It highlights “the musical phases that uniquely defined your year.” Every user will receive up to three “distinctive musical phases, reportedly based on various descriptors, genres, and musicians. Alongside the feature, Spotify has also prepared a custom “Your Music Evolution Playlist,” featuring both familiar and new suggested songs related to one’s musical phases throughout the year.

This is one of many personalized playlists that one can look forward to. Beyond the usual “Top Song” playlist, Spotify introduces the “Your Music Videos Playlist,” which brings together music videos from one’s most-loved artists of the year. On top of that, there are plenty of other editorial playlists & insights curated by Spotify’s music editors.

Even more AI in Spotify Wrapped 2024

If you thought this is where this year’s Wrapped experience ends, you could not be more wrong. While Wrapped itself is already driven by the power of AI, Spotify takes AI integration further this year with fresh features to elevate the Wrapped experience.

For the very first time, the music platform introduces an exclusive AI podcast that recaps each listener’s 2024 music journey, built in cooperation with Google’s NotebookLM. This “personalized Audio Overview” delivers more insight into top songs, artists, and genres of the year.

However, not all users around the globe can look forward to receiving their very own “Spotify Wrapped AI Podcast.” The feature has been rolled out to eligible Free and Premium users in select countries, including the U.S., the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Ireland, and Sweden.

Besides the AI Podcast, the reportedly fan-favorite AI DJ feature will enhance the Wrapped experience for Premium users, offering commentary and editor insights on their top tracks and artists. Finally, Premium users in available markets can turn their Spotify Wrapped data into their own AI Playlists by entering relevant prompts, like “my top 5 genres” or “artists similar to my top 5.”

Global Trends on Spotify in 2024

As far as 2024 global music trends go, female artists have once again dominated the global music scene, achieving remarkable milestones. This was particularly noticeable in the Top album category, where women claimed 8 out of the top 10 spots, showcasing their growing influence in mainstream music.

Taylor Swift’s unstoppable year

Taylor Swift solidified her place at the top once again as she earned the title of Top Global Artist of 2024, gaining an impressive 26.6 billion global streams. This marked a new record, surpassing last year’s achievement when Swift became the first woman ever to claim the win.

To celebrate her yet another accomplishment, Spotify has developed a first-ever special badge that is now visible on her Spotify account. Additionally, Swift’s fans, known as Swifties, can anticipate a special surprise to champion the power of their fanbase.

Swift’s dominance extended to albums with THE TORTURED POETS DEPARTMENT: THE ANTHOLOGY crowned the Most Streamed Album of 2024. Her two other albums, 1989 (Taylor’s Version) and Lover (2019), were also featured on the list.

Behind Swift, The Weeknd and the reggaeton star Bad Bunny took second and third place on the Most Streamed Artists list. Drake and Billie Eilish rounded out the top five, with Eilish’s album HIT ME HARD AND SOFT generating the second-highest stream count of the year.

Sabrina Carpenter’s Espresso reigned as the Most Streamed Song globally. Carpenter celebrated another success this year as her album Short n’ Sweet also secured the third spot in the Most Streamed Albums category. Following Espresso were Beautiful Things by Benson Boone, BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish, Gata Only by FloyyMenor & Cris Mj, and Lose Control by Teddy Swims.

Besides the most streamed songs, Spotify highlighted tracks that went viral, with Die With A Smile by Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga taking the top spot. BIRDS OF A FEATHER by Billie Eilish ranked second, followed by Benson Boone’s Beautiful Things, Teddy SwimsLose Controls, and Good Luck, Babe! by Chappell Roan.

Spotify also explored emerging trends in music streaming in its 2024 Wrapped edition. For example, genre-crossing, particularly in country, has been embraced by many artists, including Post Malone, Beyoncé, and Lana Del Rey. Furthermore, pop artists like Chapelle Roan, Sabrina Carpenter, and Shaboozey absolutely dominated the charts. Finally, collaborations flourished in 2024, with notable pairings like Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga, Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus, or Taylor Swift and Post Malone leading the conversation.

The top podcasts and Audiobooks of 2024

For the fifth consecutive year, The Joe Rogan Experience claimed the title of the Most Popular Podcast globally on Spotify. In the second spot, for the third time in a row, was Call Her Daddy, followed by Huberman Lab, This Past Weekend w/ Theo Von, and The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett.

The world of podcasts has also registered a growth of “incredible fandoms across sports, comedy, and true crime in 2024,” with more than half a billion listeners engaging with audio content since Spotify launched podcasts in 2019.

It’s also worth mentioning audiobooks as it’s been a year since Spotify debuted Audiobooks for its premium users in select countries. Leading the U.S. Top Audiobooks in Premium was Sarah J. Maas’s A Court of Thorns and Roses. Close behind were I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy, and A Court of Mist and Fury, also by Sarah J. Maas.

2024 Wrapped for Artists, Producers and Songwriters

Let’s be honest: Spotify Wrapped is primarily designed for fans. However, Spotify also takes time (still not enough) to celebrate the artists whose music fuels the platform. Therefore, every year, Spotify prepares Wrapped for Artists, allowing musicians to review their performances and share personalized highlights with their fans on social media.

Artists can explore popular data categories (so-called stories) like “total listeners, top fans, top track, and the gains an artist made this year compared to last year.” This year, Spotify has added two brand-new stories: the artist’s top-three-performing Clips and the artist’s biggest release week based on week-one streams. If a musician has utilized the Countdown Page, their Spotify Wrapped will also include pre-save data for projects launched in 2024.

Artists can further enjoy a new global navigation menu that allows them “to progress through the experience at their own pace and seamlessly navigate to the data points that matter most to them.” On top of that, Spotify has made each story shareable in real-time, so artists no longer need to wait until the end of their presentation to show their Wrapped highlights.

Similar to last year, songwriters and producers can access a dedicated Songwriter Page to receive their own recap of their year on Spotify. For the first time, the Songwriter Page also features live reactions of songwriters receiving their Wrapped experience.

Conclusion
