Does iMusician Register My Music To Performing Rights Organizations?

No, we don’t register your music with Performing Rights Organizations (PROs). Our role is focused on distributing your music to digital platforms and online stores, ensuring it is available to listeners worldwide. Registration with PROs for royalty collection is a separate process that you must handle independently.

What Are Performing Rights Organizations?

Performing Rights Organizations, also known as PROs or Collective Management Organizations (CMOs), are organizations that:

  • Collect and distribute royalties generated from the use of your musical compositions.
  • Cover areas such as public performance, broadcasting, and mechanical reproduction.

Examples include SACEM (France), GEMA (Germany), SUISA (Switzerland), and SIAE (Italy).

What Types of Royalties Are Collected by PROs?

  1. Performance Royalties: When your musical compositions are performed publicly, such as on the radio, in live venues, or on TV.
  2. Mechanical Royalties: When your musical compositions are reproduced/covered and sold.

These royalties are separate from the streaming and download revenue you receive through iMusician. As a distributor, we only collect royalties pertaining to your recordings.

Do I Need to Register My Music With a PRO?

It is recommended that you register your music with a PRO to receive more revenue. This is especially important if your music is being played on the radio, in public venues, or on other platforms beyond streaming services. By registering with a PRO, you can:

  • Collect royalties that we cannot collect for you
  • Access additional income streams from public performances and broadcasts.

⚠️Very important: Registering your music with a Performing Rights Organization (PRO) does not provide legal protection or ownership of your work. PRO registration ensures you can collect performance and mechanical royalties and track your music's usage but it does not replace formal copyright registration. For stronger legal protection, consider registering your work with your country’s copyright office and maintaining thorough documentation of your creation process.

How to Register Your Music With a PRO

Generally, it’s quite easy to register your music with a PRO:

  1. Choose a PRO: Select the one operating in your country or region, or a global organization if you’re targeting international markets.
  2. Sign Up: Become a member by filling out their application form and paying any necessary membership fees.
  3. Register Your Songs: Provide details about your compositions, including song titles, co-writers, and publisher information (if applicable).

If you are already a member of a PRO, make sure you actively register every new release!
