Indie artist asendorf from Winterthur, Switzerland packs his own view of life authentically and soulfully into his music. Since his debut release in 2020, he has steadily been on the rise thanks to performances on stages such as the Winterthur Music Festival Week and the Albani Music Club Winterthur, where he has cast his melodious spell on listeners with a unique brand of dreamy pop anthems.
We caught up with him this week to learn more about his latest release 'dreaming' and how he has found success independently.
Can you tell us a little about yourself?
I am asendorf. An indie musician from Winterthur. My real name is Janis Asendorf and I'm 23 years old.
I write songs about my life. Mostly they are songs in which I process something or simply sing about my life or what is on my mind at the moment. Longings and dreams usually play a big role.
My musical influences include Alice Phoebe Lou, Joesef, Sam Fender and Jesper Munk. But also many other artists from the "indie world".
With my music I would like to take people away from everyday life for a short moment. Forget their heads for a moment and just feel.

You’re releasing 'dreaming' this Friday, what is the background for the track and what does it mean to you?
The new single revolves around the interplay between longing and security - about wanting to break out and at the same time hiding in the harbor of habit. At the same time, "dreaming" does not deal with the actual fulfillment of dreams, but rather with a feeling; the life-sustaining, driving pain. The melancholy is palpable, yet the song does not bog down. It is carried by a driving beat, which, together with playful guitar sounds, gives the song a pleasant lightness that is also familiar to the musician's other songs.

How would you describe your musical influences?
As I said before... J My musical influences include Alice Phoebe Lou, Joesef, Sam Fender and Jesper Munk. But also many other artists from the "indie world".
I always love and enjoy discovering new music. Most of the time when I discover something new it's a new inspiration to write a song.
This is your third single since 2020. Can you tell us about your release strategy?
I don't have a strategy yet. At the moment, I'm trying to figure out what kind of strategy would suit me and how I can work best. But with the third single, something is slowly coming.
What is 2022 going to look like for you? And what can we expect as followers of your music?
I have set myself some goals for 2022. I can't tell you anything concrete yet, but new music and concerts will come. I'm really looking forward to this year and everything that will happen!
