Instagram Now Lets Users Save Songs to Spotify

Instagram has launched a new tool that allows users to save songs directly to their Spotify accounts. This feature improves the process of adding songs from Instagram, making it easier for users to enjoy their favorite tracks.

Instagram introduces direct song saving to Spotify

Over the years, Instagram has introduced various music features to its app. Among the most popular tools is the ability to connect Instagram with Spotify and other music services, allowing users to add songs to their stories and posts. Another useful feature is music integration in Reels, which lets users create new sounds or use existing ones from others on the platform.

Now, Instagram has introduced a new music discovery tool: the ability for users to save songs they find on the app directly to their Spotify accounts. Spotify explained they “know that music is all around you and sometimes that means right on your social media feed. That’s why beginning today, Spotify is excited to unveil a new integration with Instagram that makes it even easier to capture and instantly add songs to Spotify from Instagram with just one simple tap.”

The Instagram-TikTok rivalry: copying features to stay competitive

The new feature seems to be Instagram’s response to TikTok, which launched similar options to save tracks to platforms like Spotify, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.

Ever since TikTok became one of the most popular social media apps, both platforms have been in constant competition by ‘borrowing’ popular features from one another to remain relevant and innovative. For instance, Instagram introduced Reels to mirror TikTok’s short-form video format and integrated music features similar to TikTok’s viral sounds. Meanwhile, TikTok has adopted features from Instagram, such as Stories and enhanced e-commerce tools, to boost user engagement.

This back-and-forth copying has been met with some criticism from users, who express a desire for platforms to maintain unique identities rather than blending into one another. Nevertheless, the new Instagram feature seems highly beneficial for both music enthusiasts and artists.
