Spotify Launches ‘Basic,’ Music-Only Subscription Tier In The UK

UK-based Spotify users can now access a new, music-only subscription plan. The ‘Basic’ tier costs £10.99/month and is a slightly cheaper alternative to the Premium plan.

Spotify launches ‘Basic’ plan

Recently, Spotify users have been complaining about the platform’s increase in subscription prices and the restrictions it imposed on multiple features. Additionally, many say they find non-music-related content, such as podcasts or audiobooks, redundant. They argue that they would rather only have access to music and pay less than pay for content they are not interested in.

Those identifying with content-related complaints can now look forward to a new, music-only subscription plan. The ‘Basic’ tier, currently available to UK-based users only, costs £10.99/month. It is a slightly cheaper alternative to the Premium plan, which includes 15 hours of audiobook listening.

Spotify hinted at introducing a new, music-only plan a few weeks ago but did not specify when and where it would become available. Now that it exists in the UK, it will most likely become accessible to customers in other regions.

The music industry continues to experience many ups and downs. Growth, layoffs, music revenues, sustainability, AI-related fears, and trend forecasts have been among the most important topics this year. Yet, the year is far from over, and we are curious to see how things will continue to develop.
