Despite its recent, major data breach, Ticketmaster is forging ahead with its integration into social media platforms. After incorporating its ticket sales platform with TikTok and Snapchat, it is now collaborating with Apple’s music identification app, Shazam.
Users can now view artists’ Ticketmaster gigs directly through Shazam
The new partnership between the two companies allows artists to link their Ticketmaster live events directly in the Shazam app. This way, whenever a user lands on an artist’s track, they will see their upcoming concerts and gigs. The feature will be available in all markets where Ticketmaster operates.
As assumed, the goal of the Live Nation-owned ticketing platform is to capture a larger share of the addressable live music market. This is driven by its research, which discovered that up to 42% of music listeners had missed a concert they wanted to attend simply because they didn’t know about it beforehand.
Therefore, by integrating with Shazam, Ticketmaster seeks to ensure that fans “never miss out on unforgettable live shows” anymore while also strengthening connections between fans and their favorite artists.
Dan Armstrong, Executive Vice President of Distributed Commerce at Ticketmaster, said in a statement: “At Ticketmaster, we are constantly working to enhance the live event experience. Our collaborations with platforms like Shazam are designed to make it easy for artists to connect their fans to their live events.”
To promote this integration, Ticketmaster has launched an ad campaign under the #MusicFindsYou hashtag, starring artists Meghan Trainor, NIKI, and Peach Tree Rascals. The video ads went live on YouTube on July 8th.
“Ticketmaster’s integration with Snap Map means that our fans can easily discover when we’re in town performing, creating a space for us to unite and vibe together live. It’s a win-win situation – bringing us closer to our fans and spreading the love.” Peach Tree Rascals said in the video.
Meghan Trainor added, “I love that you can now Shazam a song and immediately buy concert tickets on Ticketmaster. It’s genius!”
The new partnership follows a number of other significant Ticketmaster integrations, most notably with Snapchat and TikTok. Under the TikTok collaboration, Certified Artists can add a Ticketmaster link to their videos, allowing their fans to purchase tickets to their show directly through the TikTok app.
Meanwhile, on Snapchat, users can find tickets through the Snap Map Layer, invite friends to events via stickers plugged into the Snapchat camera, and buy tickets directly from within the Snap app.
These integrations continuously strengthen Ticketmaster's position as the leading platform for purchasing live show tickets. This is true despite several legal challenges, including recent actions initiated by the U.S. Justice Department (DOJ) concerning antitrust and unfair competition and business practices.
In Q1, the ticketing company generated revenues of $723 million, which marks a revenue increase of 7% YoY. Overall, the company is said to have sold a total of 155 million tickets valued at $8 billion, driven by double-digit growth in international markets.
The question remains: will the ongoing data breach change anything for Ticketmaster? We will have to wait and see.
