Spotify announced the launch of video courses, its newest addition to the continuously expanding list of its services. Spotify video courses are currently being tested and are accessible only in the UK.
Spotify video courses: music, creativity, health, and business
Spotify continues to expand its services by launching a test for video courses in the United Kingdom. Together with educational companies, such as Skillshare, BBC Maestro, PLAYvirtuoso, and Thinkific Labs Inc., it will provide its UK-based users with courses covering four main themes.
Included are topics such as music making, creative pursuits, healthy living, and business. “Testing video courses in the U.K. allows us to explore an exciting opportunity to better serve the needs of our users who have an active interest in learning,” says Babar Zafar, VP Product Development at Spotify, in an official press release.
The idea stems from the popularity of educational content uploaded to the platform. According to Spotify, About half of Spotify Premium subscribers have engaged in education or self-help-themed podcasts. Thus, Zafar adds that “many of our users engage with podcasts and audiobooks on a daily basis for their learning needs, and we believe this highly engaged community will be interested in accessing and purchasing quality content from video course creators.”
While the new feature sounds exciting, users need to keep in mind that courses are not included in their subscriptions. Instead, after trialing at least two lessons, each course must be purchased separately on the dedicated web page.
Spotify recently launched a music video feature for its Premium users, currently available in the beta version in 11 countries. Earlier this year, the streaming platform teamed up with Snapchat to launch a new lens, allowing users to capture themselves and their surroundings and share music in an immersive way.
