My Music Is On The Wrong Artist Profile. What Can I Do?
Unfortunately, this issue can occur since most platforms allow multiple artists to use the same name simultaneously. If your artist name isn’t unique enough and is already being used by others, shops may struggle to assign your music to the correct profile. Don’t worry, though—this is something we can help you fix!
Link Your Artist Name to Existing Profiles
If you’ve already released music under your current artist name, you likely have some profiles created already. You can link your artist name to your existing Spotify and Apple Music profiles directly from your dashboard. To do so:
- Log into your iMusician dashboard and go to Library > Artists.
- Select the artist you want to link the profiles to.
- Under Does this artist already have a profile?, choose Yes and select your profile from the list. If your profile doesn’t appear in the list, you can add the Artist ID manually.
It’s important to understand that the shops are the ones taking care of assigning releases to artist profiles when they upload them to their respective platforms. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that your release will always be assigned to the correct profiles but don’t worry, we can always send a request to fix this if needed. If you want to avoid this, make sure to choose an artist name that is unique enough and not already used by another artist.
Note: Your music sales are linked to your ISRC codes, not to the artist profile. If your music ends up on someone else’s profile, they will not have access to your revenue!
Submitting a Request to the Shops
In most cases, we can assist by sending a request directly to the platform so they can fix their mistake. Here’s what we’ll need from you for each affected shop:
- The link to your release
- The link to the incorrect artist profile
- The link to your existing artist profile (write "create a new profile" if you don’t have one yet)
Note: This procedure is only possible with Anghami, Beatport, Google Play, Qobuz, Tidal, Apple Music, Deezer, KKBOX, Pandora, Spotify, Traxsource, and Yandex. For Spotify, if you already have access to your profile through Spotify for Artists, you can make the request yourself here.
YouTube/YouTube Music
To send a request to YouTube/YouTube Music, here’s what we’ll need:
- The link to your release on YouTube (not the YouTube Music link!)
- The link to the incorrect channel
- The link to your Official Artist Channel or your Topic channel. If this is your first release, please write "create a new channel."
Amazon Music
For Amazon Music, unfortunately we cannot make the request for you. You can submit a request through Amazon Music for Artists by following the steps explained in their FAQ. Amazon Music’s catalog experts will then investigate and resolve the issue for you.
To avoid these issues, we highly recommend choosing an artist name that is unique and not already in use by someone else. Additionally, it’s important to maintain consistent spelling and casing for your artist name across all platforms and releases. These precautions can help prevent unnecessary confusion and save you time and effort in the future 👍
