What Kind of Audio File Should I Use?

When preparing your music for digital distribution, it’s crucial to use the correct audio format to ensure high-quality sound across platforms. Here are the essential requirements for submitting your audio files to us:

  1. File Format

We only accept WAV files. WAV files maintain the highest sound quality by avoiding the compression that can degrade the audio. Other formats like MP3, AAC, or FLAC are not accepted.

  1. Sample Rate

The sample rate determines how many times per second audio data is captured. We accept files with a sample rate between 44.1 kHz (standard for CDs) and 96.0 kHz (higher definition). Ensure your audio file falls within this range to meet our requirements.

  1. Bit Depth

The bit depth impacts the dynamic range and overall sound quality. We require a bit depth of 16 bit (CD quality) to 24 bit (high-resolution audio). Files outside of this range will not be accepted.

  1. Mastering

Before submitting your release, make sure your audio files are mastered! Mastering is the final step in audio production and it optimizes the sound for consistent playback across all devices and platforms. Unmastered tracks may not sound as polished or professional, which can negatively impact the listener's experience. That’s why it’s essential that you don’t skip this step!

If you haven't mastered your tracks yet, we offer some options to help you out:

  • Instant Mastering: This tool provides fast, automated mastering directly through our platform.
  • Professional Mastering with JP Masters: For a more personalized touch, we partner with JP Masters, a professional mastering studio that can ensure your tracks are polished to perfection.
